Week 8 Wednesday 10/1 - Determining Mass and Volume of Liquids WARM-UP: Write the definition for interpolation and extrapolation in your lab journal. What is the relationship of the mass of water to the volume of water? for ethanol? Homework: READ Investigate Part B: Mass and Volume of Solids Write a procedure in your lab journal to calculate the mass/volume ratio and slope of the graph for Play Dough and for Silly Putty. Use the method diagrammed on pg 51 for measuring the volume of each solid. (Hint - Use the procedure from Part A as a guide.) Thursday 10/2 - Determining Mass and Volume of Solids WARM UP: Share your answer to Investigate question #9 with your group. Using your board, take turns writing the answer to a) and b). NOTES: Compass Learning. Scientific Measurement, "Measurement". INVESTIGATE: Part B - Mass and Volume of Solids. As a group, decide on a procedure to calculate the mass/volume ratio and slope of the graph for each material. With each student in the group taking a turn, record your procedure on your Board.
Friday 10/3 - Determining Mass and Volume of Solids INVESTIGATE: Using the procedure given to your group, conduct Investigation B. Write this procedure in your Lab Journal, making corrections as necessary. Completed Investigation B due at start of class on Monday.

(Grp 1 - #2, Grp 2 - #3, Grp 3 - #4 & 5, Grp 4 - # 6 a & b, Grp 5 - # 6 c & d, Grp 6 - #7 & 8). INQUIRING FURTHER: In your groups, discuss questions 1 &2 on pg 59. Taking turns, write your answers on your board. Be prepared to share with the class. Homework: Prepare for the Section 1.5 quiz. You will be allowed to use your Lab Journal.
